Reading Books

Ok, not sure but we might have a had breakthrough with the whole reading thing. Mackenzie has never really cared to be read to. She will not sit still for a story. She loves the board books and will sit on the floor and turn and look at the pages but try reading to her and she leaves.

For some time now I've been reading to her at night when I give her a bottle before bed. It's the only time that I know she will sit still. She doesn't always look at the pages but I figure if she hears my voice that is good.

Last week I went to read a book called "I Love You Mouse". I wasn't even feeding her. I just had her on my lap in the chair. She was actually paying attention and before I turned the page I would make the sound of what animal was on that page. She would look up at me and smile, she was really enjoying it. Then of course, 3 pages to the end, she wanted down. A little part of me was crushed. I was really hoping that she was making a turning point.

So last night I had to drop off a book at the local library for a friend. I decided since I had some extra time I would go in and get a library card. I know, 40 years old and I do not have one. So I picked out 9 books, mostly titles that I was familiar with or knew about. One of them was the above book Stellaluna. So I sat down last night with her before bed and opened up the book and read to her. When she was done with her bottle I gave her binky to her and she continued to sit there and look at the book as I read to her. It was kind of a long story. At one point she acted like she was going to get down but I just held on to her and readjusted her. She continued to sit there as I finished the story. And remember I said it was kind of a long story so I thought that was extremely good. After we were done I praised her for being such a good girl.

I know better then to get my hopes up but I will try another book tonight and see how it goes.
